There's a difference between a glitch and an exploit. A glitch is unintended behavior that the game just simply would've never allowed in the first place. An exploit is using a game's mechanics to your advantage, which can still result in unintended behavior, but behavior that is within the game's natural scope. The two can cross, and I think that's where the issue is? It's whether you play the game "normally" or you exploit its mechanics to your advantage.

I prefer glitchless speedruns in general, but he is right about the Zelda ones being boring. Still think TOTK should be run without duping tho, because that's even more boring

Glitchless is very ill defined in most Zelda games. In OOT it allows power crouch stab. A glitch the developers intentionally patched in MM.

@linkus7 7:57 erm actually... the reason why it's classified as a glitch is because your TECHNICALLY going through an invisible wall by using push mechanics to go through a wall to skip parts of the game like how you would to noclip through other walls. It makes sense if you look at more carefully 🤓🤓🤓🤓

A bug, in a computer science frame of reference, is absolutely any unintended outcome. It could be a logic issue with how the programmer programed some calculation that caused a weapon that was supposed to do +10 dmg now does +12 dmg. You as a player have almost no way of even knowing that this is a bug, it's just a +12 weapon. And I think this is where a lot of disagreement on what is and isn't a bug comes from. Ultimately the defining characteristic of a bug is whether or not the developers intended for something to behave that way or not. And you pretty much always have to speculate as to whether or not that interaction is intended. I think Borderlands 2 is a great example of this. Back in the launch of the game, they actively balanced things. A good example is the interaction with the Bee Shield and the Conference Call. The bee shield incorrectly applied the damage amplification to each pellet of the shotgun. They patched this. Eventually more and more bugged interactions were discovered. Eventually the devs just stopped patching them and let players enjoy that game. The Bee + Conference call is still patched, but there are other The Bee + (other multi pellet weapon) still work in that unintended, but now arguably intended way since they gave up on patching this bug. It creates a really weird grey line where it's almost impossible to figure out what behaviors are intentional. 6:05 , i'd 100% categorize this is a bug. It's really normal for objects to have collision boxes that don't exactly match their objects to prevent players from going out of bounds. It's 100% a bug because the developers clearly didn't want you to do this because they made a mismatched collision box specifically to prevent what the player is trying to do. Not intentional behavior = bug. So not only is this a bug, but it's also 100% against the categories own rules because they set boundaries for the boss fight, and the rules states no out of bounds. It directly contradicts the categories rules ontop of being a bug. 7:05 definitely a bug too. also an out of bounds again by the rules definition. The flames create what is supposed to be an impassable boundary.

Whoever claimed that the bird(don't know how to spell its name)skip is not a glitch really needs to re-examine what the word glitch means...

For those interested in what linkus means when he says glitchless is not casual i encourage you to watch smiffics how many cycles to 100% majoras mask. That isnt fast casual but it is glitchless. A good show of its not what you think it is
